Our little Buddha has even more reason to smile!  The Los Angeles International Film Festival has given Life an Honorable Mention Award in the Experimental Film Category.   More details on the festival to come.

LIFE will premiere on May 5th at 7:00 pm at Whitsell Auditorium, in the Portland Art Museum.  The fourth installment of the Poetry In Pictures Series, based on Edith Wharton’s 1894 poem “Life,” delves into the idea that the choices we make ultimately shape our lives. Out of what we are given we craft our selves through how we spend our time. Juxtaposing Wharton’s poetic musings, an improvisational score and an array of fantastical images including a ceaselessly transforming sculpture as well as photographs, paintings, charcoal drawings and live footage, the short film celebrates art’s power and presents a vivid reminder of the need to make the most of our years and days.

Perhaps it resulted from a lifelong interest in food and my own efforts to grow vegetables the way my grandmother did. Maybe it had something to do with Charles Goodrich’s Going to Seed: Dispatches from the Garden, the source of the latest work-in-progress for the Poetry in Pictures Series. Whatever the inspiration may have been, I chose a garden for the setting of “Inheritance,” a poem that will appear in a forthcoming issue of the journal GreenPrints.
